A Father for my Son is an adaptation by Jenny Coverack and Robert Edwards of Louisa Young's biography and Kathleen Scott's autobiography and diaries. It recounts the moving story of Kathleen Scott, wife of the Antarctic explorer, Captain Robert Scott and mother of Peter Scott, the famous ornithologist and painter.
Kathleen was a free spirit, the youngest of 11 children. She slept out of doors and set off vagabonding whenever she could. She ran away to Paris to be an artist, looked after refugees in Macedonia. She solved the problem of finding a father for Peter by marrying Capt Scott, but he soon set off for the Antarctic, and she learnt of the progress of his expedition through his letters and eventually heard of the failure of the expedition, and the death of her husband. Thereafter she brought up her son, Peter, on her own.
Kathleen is played by Jenny Coverack who lives in the Tamar Valley and trained at the Bristol Old Vic.
